The best time of the day to drink Darjeeling green tea

The best time of the day to drink Darjeeling green tea

We all know the benefits that green tea has on our health and well-being. However, one of the most common questions that is asked about the drink is, 'when is the best time to drink green tea?' To get the most out of your tea, consuming it at the right time is important.

The right time for Darjeeling green tea

To get the complete benefits of Darjeeling green tea, it is best to consume it at least 2 hours before or after a meal. So, if you eat breakfast at 7am, wait until at least 9am for your first cup. Another important thing to remember is not to drink Darjeeling green tea immediately upon waking. Contrary to belief, drinking green tea a couple of hours after eating helps improve our overall mood and well-being.

This is because green tea contains caffeine, which is absorbed by the body. Although it is significantly less than that of black tea and coffee, it still gives us an energy boost when consumed. As a result, our body absorbs the nutrients and caffeine of the Darjeeling tea. The benefit of waiting at least 2 hours after a meal to drink the tea is so that the catechins (a major antioxidant) won’t react to any casein protein that you may have consumed at breakfast. Casein, unlike whey protein, is a slow-releasing protein that is found in milk and other animal proteins (such as cheese) which keeps us fuller for longer.

How much Darjeeling green tea to drink?

Although green tea contains only a small amount of caffeine, it is important that you consume no more than 3 cups a day.

Drinking green tea at night is fine, as long as you have your last cup at least 2 hours before bed. The warmth of the tea and the caffeine is absorbed much quicker by the body, which, in turn, will lead to increased urination throughout the night.

However, drinking green tea at night won’t hamper you from achieving a deep sleep. In fact, due to the nutrients of the tea, you will burn fat while you sleep.
